Buitenverwachting, Christine 2017

Nestled on the eastern slopes of South Africa's Constantiaberg, Buitenverwachting - meaning "Beyond Expectation" - is a historic estate with roots dating back to 1685. Revived in the 1980s by the Müller family, the estate has become renowned for its elegant, cool-climate wines. Utilising grapes from their own vineyards, Buitenverwachting crafts wines that reflect the unique terroir of Constantia, combining tradition with modern winemaking techniques. The current custodian and winemaker, Lars Müller, named this wine for his mother, Christine. It's made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Dense ruby, it unfolds with rich black cherry, cassis, and ripe plum laced with dark chocolate, tobacco, and spice. Full-bodied and polished, velvety tannins and bright acidity provide structure and balance. The 24-month new French oak ageing adds nuanced vanilla and earthy complexity, while the long finish retains freshness and poise. A refined Bordeaux-style blend that rewards cellaring and enjoys striking harmony between power and elegance.
